Citalopram (30mg) for depression

I've been taking citalopram since 15 March. I started on 10 mg but I had to increase pretty quickly to 30 mg. I got loads of bad side effects. My panic attacks just seemed to get worse and I started having suicidal thoughts. So the doctors reduced my dose a bit, to 25 mg. It seemed to be a little better but I'm suffering again with suicidal thoughts and panic attacks. I wonder if anyone else on here has had this kind of experience with it? And if it's normal and how long it might last for...
