Metformin (500mg) for diabetes type 2

Halfway through June 2016 I started taking 1 Metformine 500 mg tablet per day because my blood sugar level was 7.2. One month later I had a blood test for glucose levels and it had reduced to 6.6. GP then prescribed 2 x 500 mg per day. Then I got stomach pains, mild to begin with but gradually worsening. His answer was that I just had to get used to it! At the insistence of my office I had called in sick, completely stopped for 5 days then back on to 1 500 mg tablet a day. After 2 days the stomach pains came back, badly. I'm going to find another GP I don't trust him.
